Field excursions

After the conference, the following field excursions are planned:

For comfortable participation in excursions, it is necessary to have shoes for walking on rough terrain, warm and protective clothing from wind and rain.

September 10 (Friday)

South Baikal geological excursion

(guides: Levitsky V.I., Levitsky I.V., Rasskazov S.V.)

8:00-9:30 Transfer from Irkutsk to the Angasolka quarry along the federal highway toward Slyudyanka town.

9:30-12:00 Stop 1 - Introduction to the Neoarchean and Paleoproterozoic metamorphic rocks of the granulite facies of the Sharyzhalgai complex at the Angasolka quarry. Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes.

12:00-12:30 Transfer to Kultuk settlement (south coast of Lake Baikal).

12:30-13:30 Lunch at Kultuk settlement.

13:30-13:50 Transfer to Slyudyanka town to the quarry "Pereval”.

13:50-15:50 Stop 2 - introduction to the carbonate rocks (marbles) of the Slyudyansky complex at the Pereval quarry (Early Paleozoic metamorphic complexes formed by the Neoproterozoic carbonate protolith). Rare mineralization: red spinel, vanadium garnet, purple scapolite, pink phlogopite. Duration is 2 hours.

15:50-16:20 Transfer along the highway from the Kultuk settlement towards the Tunka Valley to the quarry "1st Tibelty".

16:20-17:50 Stop 3 - Late Miocene basalts and diabases with lherzolite and pyroxenite inclusions at the 1st Tibelty quarry (Quarry volcano). Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes.

17:50-18:20 Transfer to Kultuk village.

18:30-19:30 Dinner at Kultuk settlement.

19:30-21:00 Return to Irkutsk.

Price is 4000 rubles.

September 10 (Friday)

Geological excursion "Precambrian complexes of the southern margin of the Siberian craton"

08:00-9:30 Transfer from Irkutsk to Listvyanka (Baikal).

9:30-11:00 Stops 1-3 – Listvyanka settlement.

Stop 1 - migmatized biotite gneiss. Rocks of the basement of the Siberian craton (2.9 Ga), which underwent metamorphic alteration in the Paleoproterozoic (1.9 Ga).

Stop 2 - Mesoproterozoic dolerites (1.3 Ga).

Stop 3 - Neoproterozoic dolerites (720 Ma).

11:00-12:30 Transfer by ship from Listvyanka settlement to Cape Tolstoy (Circum-Baikal Railway). Lunch on board.

12:30-15:00 Stops 4-5 at Cape Tolstoy.

Stop 4 granulites of medium-acid composition with an age of 1.9 Ga, with zircons, whose cores contain relics of early generation with an age of 3.4 Ga.

Stop 5 - Circum-Baikal Railway tunnels (monuments of engineering art of the beginning of the XX century).

15:00-16:30 Transfer by ship from Cape Tolstoy to Listvyanka settlement.

16:30-18:00 Return to Irkutsk.

September 11 (Saturday) – September 13 (Monday)

Geological excursion " Geology of the Olkhon composite terrane (Central Asian Orogenic belt – CAOB)"

September 11

08:00 Departure from Irkutsk along the Kachugsky highway towards Buguldeika settlement (west coast of Lake Baikal).

12:00-14:00 Stops 1-3 - in the vicinity of Buguldeika settlement.

Stop 1 -rapakivi-like granites of the Primorsky complex of the Siberian craton basement (1.86 Ga).

Stop 2 - blastomylonites of suture separating the Siberian craton and the Olkhon terrane, CAOB.

Stop 3 -marbles of the Olkhon terrane.

14:00-15:00 Lunch on the shore of Lake Baikal (Kuyada settlement).

15:00-16:00 Stop 4 - gabbroids of the Birkhinsky complex, 500 Ma.

16:00-17:00 Transfer to the Naratei campsite near the Olkhon Gate Strait, check-in.

18:00-21:00 Dinner at the Naratei campsite.

September 12

08:00-08:30 Breakfast at the Naratei campsite.

09:00-10:00 Departure for the excursion.

10:00-11:30 Stop 5 -Tazheran alkaline massif (460 Ma).

11:30-12:30 Transfer to Sakhyurt settlement.

12:30-13:00 Ferry crossing to Olkhon Island.

13:00-14:00 Stop 6 - metamorphic complexes of Olkhon Island (465 Ma) and lunch on the shore of the Small Sea Strait.

14:00-14:30 Crossing from the iOlkhon Island to the "mainland".

14:30-15:30 Transfer to Cape Khadarta.

15:30-16:30 Stop 7 -mafic granulites of Cape Khadarta (500 Ma).

16:30-17:30 Transfer to the Naratei campsite.

19:00-21:00 Dinner, discussion of the excursion.

September 13

08:00-08:30 Breakfast at the Naratei campsite.

09:30-10:00 Departure from the campsite for an excursion.

10:00-10:30 Stop 8 - ultrabasites of the Olkhon terrane (MRS settlement).

10:30-11:00 Transfer to Chernorud settlement.

11:00-11:30 Stop 9 - ultrabasites at Chernorud settlement.

11:30-11:45 Transfer to Stop 10.

11:45-12:30 Stop 10 - granite remains (460 Ma).

12:30-13:00 Transfer to the cafe "Tagherany".

13:00-14:00 Lunch at the Tazherany cafe.

14:00-14:20 Transfer to Stop 11.

14:20-15:00 Stop 11 - Holocene geyserites.

15:00-19:00 Return to Irkutsk.

The price of a 3-day excursion "Geology of the Olkhon composite terrane..." is 16,000 rubles. The price includes the accommodation at the Naratei campsite in triple rooms with three single beds. If you need more comfortable living conditions, you should contact the administration of the Naratei campsite directly https://naratey-baikal.ru or the Organizing Committee. Your wishes will be taken into account when calculating the cost of the tour.

Minor changes may be made to the excursion program, depending on weather conditions and force majeure circumstances.

The previously announced excursion to the Eastern Sayan (Onotsky greenstone belt) is canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions in the spring-summer of 2021, which led to a deterioration in the condition of roads at the foothills of the Eastern Sayan and to the impossibility of conducting an excursion within 3 days. The organizers of the Conference are ready to consider applications for organizing excursions to the Eastern Sayans in 2022.
